The 1971-D Eisenhower $1 Friendly Eagle, graded NGC MS65(to us looks better), is a desirable first-year variety from the iconic Ike Dollar series. Struck at the Denver Mint, this coin features the popular “Friendly Eagle” reverse — a subtype distinguished by softer, more rounded eagle details and subtle design characteristics that differentiate it from later hub modifications.
Issued in the debut year of the Eisenhower Dollar program, the 1971 release marked the return of the large-size dollar coin to U.S. circulation for the first time since 1935. Designed by Frank Gasparro, the obverse honors President Dwight D. Eisenhower, while the reverse depicts the Apollo 11 mission insignia with an eagle descending toward the lunar surface.
Graded MS65, this example exhibits strong mint luster, sharp strike detail, and minimal contact marks consistent with Gem Mint State preservation. Because large-format clad dollars often show marks easily, certified MS65 pieces remain highly collectible.
An excellent addition for Ike Dollar specialists, first-year issue collectors, or modern U.S. variety enthusiasts.
